Modern Finishing School: A Collaboration
When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a diplomat. I pursued my dream by studying International Relations and diplomacy at the University of Oxford, in Oxford, England, where I completed an MPhil. (That's me, on the left, in London.) I threw myself into my studies, learning French, Spanish and Dutch, and the fundamentals of geopolitics.
There are some things you can learn at university - but the most important things I learned over the years were not from books. I learned that the single most important indicator of success is not your education or your background, but rather your emotional intelligence and ability to create your own personal brand to reflect your unique qualities.
I have since worked at the American Embassy in Paris, as a strategist at Lloyds Bank in London, and as an entrepreneur orchestrating over $25 million in property investments throughout Europe. I have found myself entertaining foreign diplomats at the American Ambassador's Residence in Paris, chatting with countesses at cocktail receptions, and meeting with the CEOs of multi-million dollar property funds. These experiences have taught me that by studying the fundamentals of comportment, etiquette and style, anyone can create a safety net so that in situations which at first appear uncertain or awkward, we can rely on ourselves to make others feel at ease by maintaining our poise.
I set up the Personal Branding eCourse as a way to formalize that learning process so that others could benefit from a lifetime of training in just 6 weeks. I could never have done it alone - the eCourse is the brainchild of a group of friends and advisors I have gathered together to share their advice, expertise, and personal stories with you. Among them are an Oxford University professor, a high-ranking American diplomat currently stationed in Buenos Aires, a Russian countess famous for hosting some of the best parties in London, a Scottish politician, a Cordon Bleu educated master chef, a Paris Fashion Institute educated designer and a Harvard Business School lecturer. I have asked all contributors to go beyond merely conveying information in order to share a more personal perspective with you; as such, names have been changed in order to protect the privacy of our contributors, many of whom continue to serve in high-profile roles at prestigious institutions. This has allowed them to reveal stories about their own personal development that otherwise could not be shared, giving you a far better insight into what it really takes to achieve poise in the face of adversity.
We hope you enjoy the Course! We would love to hear from you, so please get in touch with us via the Contact Us page and we will get back to you within a day.
